A weekend drive turned fatal in Boulder County after a devastating head-on crash on Colorado 128 claimed the life of a Westminster man.

 

Officials confirmed that the 56-year-old from Westminster was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday evening.

 

The collision happened around 5:20 p.m. near West 120th Avenue, in a stretch of highway southwest of Superior.

 

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the man was driving a sedan eastbound on Colorado 128.

 

For reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered into the westbound lane.

 

It then collided directly with an oncoming SUV.

 

The force of the impact was catastrophic.

 

The driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old man from Golden, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
