Hanukkah: The Festival of Lights Shines Bright in Boulder Amid Global Shadows

Hanukkah: The Festival of Lights kicked off at sundown on December 14, 2025, inviting families across Colorado to embrace eight days of warmth and tradition.

 

This beloved Jewish holiday, running through December 22, honors the ancient miracle of oil that burned for eight nights in the rededicated Temple.

 

In Boulder Valley, communities are lighting up with menorah ceremonies, latke feasts, and dreidel games at local spots like the Stroum Jewish Community Center.

 

Local families gather for hands-on crafts and festive markets, blending old customs with modern twists.

 

Yet, this year's celebrations carry a somber note after a tragic shooting at a Hanukkah event in Sydney's Bondi Beach, where lives were lost in an act of violence.

 

The incident underscores the resilience of the Jewish spirit. 

 

Amid challenges, Hanukkah inspires hope and unity in our neighborhoods.

 

Whether spinning dreidels or sharing sufganiyot, these moments foster community bonds that endure.

Chanukah on Pearl  Monday, 15 December (5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Pearl Street Mall in front of the Courthouse Lawn) Boulder County's largest public menorah lighting, organized by the Boulder JCC in partnership with the Boulder County Center for Judaism. Free and open to all, with live music by Steve Brodsky, traditional treats, hot chocolate, and a new artistic menorah debut. Advance registration recommended.

 

Later in the Holiday: Saturday, 20 December 

• Chanukah on Ice (6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Longmont Ice Pavilion) Ice skating to Chanukah music, sufganiyot, hot chocolate, and a menorah lighting. $8–$12 for skaters (depending on rentals), free for non-skaters.
